The reality though was that the Emancipation did not end slavery. Freedom for many would be won state by state in battles across the remnants of the Confederacy, with the help of nearly 200,000 Black soldiers who joined in the Union effort after Lincoln’s proclamation.

About a year ago, teenager Anastasia Vlasova (not pictured above) started seeing a therapist. She had developed an eating disorder, and had a clear idea of what led to it: her time on Instagram.
She joined the platform at 13, and eventually was spending three hours a day entranced by the seemingly perfect lives and bodies of the fitness influencers who posted on the app.

We are ready to meet this moment. We are ready to become a Boston for everyone,” said Wu on Tuesday night.
This mayoral election in Boston differed greatly from those of years past. Acting mayor Kim Janey, who took over from over from Marty Walsh when he was tapped to act as President Joe Biden’s Labor secretary in January, had vied for the elected position but in September failed to secure a final slot to compete against Wu. Although Janey, a Black woman, was briefly Boston’s first female mayor of color, Wu holds the distinction of being the first Asian-American woman elected to the position.
