"Being the first Black dancer in 50 years of Pacific Northwest Ballet, this is a moment for young Black boys, young Black girls, that want to dance, that want to see themselves on that stage," Batista said. Thierry Mugler's Designs on Display
Thierry Mugler: Couturissime is the first retrospective to explore the fascinating, edgy universe of French designer and perfumer Thierry Mugler, one of the most daring and innovative designers of the late twentieth century. The exhibition features nearly 130 outfits ranging from haute couture designs to stage costumes, alongside custom accessories, sketches, videos, images by leading fashion photographers, and spectacular, immersive installations that mirror Mugler’s futuristic approach. On display November 18, 2022–May 7, 2023.

Golden Globes 2023
January 9, 2023. The 80th Golden Globe Awards will be on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on NBC and Peacock. There are 27 award categories. The nominees were voted by 96 members and, for the first time, 103 international voters. This diverse voting group represents 62 different countries around the world.

The Black Music Action Coalition has awarded Atlanta-based artist Mondaii with its 2022 Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Music Makers Grant. The newly established annual grant provides $5,000 to an emerging producer or songwriter personally selected by Jam and Lewis.
Emerging artist Mondaii was presented with the grant.

However, before the storefronts shuttered, augmented reality (AR) technology was on the rise in beauty. AR allows for virtual try-on, in which a customer can swipe on a new lipstick shade, hair color, or brow shape via desktop browser or mobile app. Brands to check out: L'Oreal, Paris Hair & Make-up, Redkin, Garnier, Chanel, Maybelline, MAC and Opi Nail.

It was reported that after the credits rolled and the lights came up, Jonathan Majors received an electric standing ovation for his performance in the film Magazine Dreams. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the Eccles Theatre. The film is produced by Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. This Month in Theaters
January 23, 2023. Saint Omer is the first narrative of director Alice Diop starring Kayije Kagame and Guslagie Malanda. The French film is based on the 2016 court case of Fabienne Kabou, who was convicted of killing her daughter in 2013. Manohla Dargis of the New York Times called it "Intellectually galvanizing and emotionally harrowing, the story explores motherhood, race and postcolonial France with control, lucidity and compassion. Winner of 11 national and international film awards it's in theaters this month.

The Balmain Unicorn Sneaker Is Back And Better

Last June, Balmain unveiled its latest “it” sneaker: the Unicorn. With a moulded, aerodynamic silhouette, chunky sole and pointed toe, the $1,200 shoe was designed to look like something out of the metaverse, according to creative director Olivier Rousteing’s brief. Now, the sneaker is officially getting its digital counterpart.
Balmain will soon launch NFTs modeled on the Unicorn sneaker in a new colourway (with more to be announced) that will accompany physical versions of the shoes, as part of a partnership with digital wearable and experience startup Space Runners.
